EVENT:
As a contribution to Diversity Week at Loyola Law School, three student organizations: Asian Pacific Law Students Association, Black Law Students Association and La Raza de Loyola are making a joint effort with their affiliated bar associations to each bring a minimum of ten attorneys of color to Loyola Law School on Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at 5:00 p.m.
SETUP:
The event will take place in the Student Lounge on the Loyola Law School campus. The goal is to have at least 30 attorneys of color available for 80-90 law students to give informational interviews on specific practice areas and how diversity is promoted in their area. The current idea is to have attorneys sit at different stations divided by practice area: plaintiffs attorneys, criminal defense, transactional, prosecution, immigration and family law, etc.
FORMAT:
The schedule for the event will be an initial meet-and-greet to allow attendees to get food and mingle. The formal part of the event will begin at 5:30. We will start with a short panel discussion with speakers representing diverse areas of law as well as their diverse ethnic communities. The panel will consist of 3 speakers. Each organization student organization will choose one speaker, but the organizations will coordinate to ensure that each speaker represents a different practice area. Student leaders from each organization will address questions to the panel that frame diversity and give student attendees a general idea of each attorney's practice area.
After the panel discussion we will ask every attorney to go to their respective stations and allow students to meet with them. The goal is for students to network with attorneys who can encourage racial and ethnic diversity in their practice area.
