Inaugural Advancing Justice Conference

The Advancing Justice Conference is an inaugural national civil rights and social justice conference, expected to draw several hundred individuals from across the country.  The conference aims to bring together a diverse group of stakeholders in one place to address a broad range of issues facing the Asian American and Pacific Islander community.  It serves as a unique forum where researchers, advocates, direct service providers and other leaders can meet face-to-face, talk about their common challenges and find ways to work collaboratively.

The featured conference plenary sessions will address the:
  • landscape for comprehensive immigration reform: understanding the political, organizing, faith and labor angles
  • latest research on the attitudes and political views and participation of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders

Chief Labor Negotiator

(Associate General Counsel II)
Salary: $174,400 - $185,700
About the Organization
The Office of General Counsel (OGC) of the Los Angeles Unified School District is
seeking a highly qualified and motivated individual for the position of Chief Labor
Negotiator to join its existing team of close to 100 staff members, including over 30 attorneys. The OGC is an high performance legal department with high professional standards and integrity that provides first class legal service to the teachers, supervisors, administrators and other employees who support the District's 700,000 students.
Key Areas of Responsibility
The individual chosen to fill this position will become an integral part of the OGC and act as the lead negotiator for the District in employment and labor relations matters. The Chief Labor Negotiator will represent the District in complex labor negotiations regarding wages, hours, benefits and other terms and conditions of employment for LAUSD employees represented by 8 different unions. This individual will also serve the District by providing legal advice related to labor law as well as supervise and provide work direction to a legal team and support staff in areas of legal interest such as union negotiations, contractual arbitration, matters before the Public Employee Relations Board, and labor-related matters in Superior or Federal Court. In addition, the Chief Labor Negotiator will assist the District with the interpretation, implementation, and administration of labor contracts, and may be called upon to retain experts when related to the legal advice requested.
At a Minimum Candidates must Possess:

Education: A Juris Doctor Degree or equivalent from an American Bar Association
accredited institution.
Experience: Six years of experience as a practicing member of the Bar;considerable labor relations experience is essential.
Bar Membership: Authorization to practice law in California by the California State
Bar Association.
